How We Came To Be

Back in 2011, both of us individually decided to quit our former jobs and dive into the world of doulas.  We joined a doula service and for years supported one another as emergency backups as we each formed our own practices.  After many births and many years working with families alone, we decided to join forces in the summer of 2015 and created this beloved partnership.  We felt that together we would be able to better assist our families by combining our experiences, resources and approach to address the unexpected challenges that arise and to share in the beautiful memories as well.  We also loved the idea of working with our families more deeply in the postpartum period by offering more visits and knew we could do that better as a team.  Though for many years it was hard to imagine giving up our individual practices, we feel blessed to have found a trusted and complimentary partner in each other and our couples think so too!  Find out a little about each of us below.

KARLA

I am proud to be part of the community of doulas and childbirth educators in NYC. I am a certified birth doula , postpartum doula, certified childbirth educator, certified breastfeeding counselor, local ICAN chapter leader, and mother of three kids.  I live in Manhattan UWS and I provide doula services and teach childbirth education classes in Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. My journey towards becoming a birth worker began in 2003 when I was preparing for the birth of my second child. Since my first child was born by c-section, I needed extra support and plenty of research in order to be well prepared to have a VBAC. I found tremendous knowledge and emotional support in the wonderful organization ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network). My two VBACs were incredible and humbling experiences, that taught me not only about the birth process but also about the importance of strong support.

With a degree in Sociology, an MBA, experience in computer graphics and management, I never expected my life to take such a radical and positive turn. And I am very grateful that it did. After the birth of my last child I quit the corporate world, followed my passion and started my education and work in the birth field.  In 2017 I completed the Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology Educator Program. I believe that not only the physical, but also the emotional health of the baby begins in the womb and I am excited to share the knowledge of this young field.
I am also in the process of re-certifying as a childbirth educator through the prestigious Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan NY. Like all doulas, I feel very blessed to be supporting parents through the amazing experience of birth, one that will stay with them for a lifetime.

I'm a New York City based certified birth doula, postpartum doula, and certified breastfeeding counselor. Previously, I graduated from Tulane University with degrees in Psychology and Political Science.  I worked for 9 years as a campaign director coaching activists and organizers to find the courage and will to run challenging environmental, human rights, and electoral campaigns.  I thrived working in an intense environment guiding a team towards a goal.

Around this time, my sister asked me to be her doula for her first and second birth.  I actually found the work to be quite similar.  Intense, raw but so beautifully intimate.  Being with her during that demanding and awe-inspiring moments left me with a deep respect for women, our bodies, and the miracles the universe can provide us with after hard work.  Her beautiful babies are what brought me to New York City and those experiences are the reason I got certified as a doula.  Today I support families with natural and medicated births in NYC hospitals, birthing centers and homes.  After having been a birth doula for many families, I realized the impact that a smooth transition into parenthood and a successful breastfeeding relationship can have on the mother and family and then became a postpartum doula and certified breastfeeding counselor.  I feel so incredibly grateful that my time with families can leave such a positive lasting impression which which that family can have a more peaceful beginning for years to come.

I speak English and Spanish and assist families in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
