"We are so so thankful for our little beautiful and healthy Ava. She is without question the best thing that has ever happened to both of us.   We are forever grateful for you and Karla and all the support and guidance you have given us. I feel certain the without you guys by our side that things would not have gone as smoothly. At least I know that I would not have been able to help Julie as effectively without Karla there reminding me and helping me to figure out how best to comfort and cheer Julie on.  But ultimately Julie reminded me of how powerful, amazing and strong she is, and how lucky I am to have her as my partner. I have never been so proud of anyone as I was of Julie on Thursday. Her determination was like nothing I have ever seen and she truly deserves all of the credit for this new little bundle of joy.  We both look forward to continuing to share our experience and Ava's milestones with you guys.  Thanks so much for everything, Corey."

(Thank you note from the mama to Narchi:)

"Thanks so much for your note of congratulations. I will echo Corey's sentiments that both you an Karla provided such a stronghold for us throughout the uncertainties of pregnancy, labor, and now the first few days with a newborn. I know for certain that things would not have been the same for me without your and Karla's support!  I feel so blessed to have been able to have the birth I imagined. I never anticipated how much it would mean to me to give birth naturally, and to succeed in bringing a healthy baby to this world with nothing but my body! Corey's email is so sweet, but he was also a huge support and kicked it in high gear when I needed him. I didn't do this alone! Best wishes to you both and we will be in touch for sure. Hugs, Julie"

"We are so glad we chose Narci and Karla to be our doulas! Both ladies are warm, experienced, and knowledgeable. Our two prenatal visits were extremely informative and helped us feel much more prepared for birth. And when the day finally came, Narci was amazing--she was an essential member of our team during my surprisingly brief birth. Because Narchi was there, both my husband and I were much calmer and and felt more in control. I don't know what I would have done without her! After our amazing little guy was born, Narchi stayed for a couple of hours with us, guiding us through the first steps of breastfeeding and helping to further calm our nerves. We cannot recommend Narchi and Karla highly enough!" - Jennette and Carl

"I would definitely recommend Narchi and Karla for their doula services! They were incredible supportive, respectful and thoughtful during the pre- and postpartum process. They were great in meeting me and my husband beforehand; they had lots of useful information and were very personable. They honored all our requests and treated us with kindness. During my birth Narchi was on call and she was great in helping me staying calm with breathing techniques and offering me water and ice chips. Both of Narchi and Karla were available postpartum for phone calls and answered all our questions constantly. They have a great network of lactation consultants and postpartum doulas. All in all they are a great team!" - Carola

"Wonderful experience with Narchi and Karla! Interviewing doulas, we met with Narchi and Karla and decided right away to stop our search!  We felt so comfortable with both of the doulas and found them to be knowledgeable, compassionate, and professional.  We loved that doula services were their only priority, and that they dedicated time to get to know us and our preferences.  As our pregnancy progressed, Karla and Narchi checked in on us frequently, answering questions and sharing resources.  They were very helpful when we decided at 32 weeks to transfer providers, and in the final weeks of our pregnancy, the meetings we had with them helped us to “practice” for laboring at home before the hospital. When the big day(s) came, we called Karla right after the water breaking, and kept her posted as we went through a long early labor.  When labor wasn’t progressing, Karla put us in touch with an acupuncturist who could help. When laboring just the two of us was getting too difficult, Karla was on the scene in no time, and after 26 hours of early labor, Karla helped us as we made a decision to go to the hospital, where she continued to support labor for another 17 hours!  As our baby turned in labor, Narchi stopped by with more support and to bring a peanut ball to help baby regain ideal position.  Karla coached us through pushing, and finally, after 43 hours of labor, our little ray of light came into the world – sunny side up! The day after we came home from the hospital, Karla came and helped with a difficult start to breastfeeding, saving the day once again!

We are so grateful to Karla and Narchi for helping bring baby into the world and doing everything possible to help us have the birth experience we hoped for.  They were without a doubt the right choice to add to our team, and the perfect doulas to help us welcome our little one into the world!" - April and Ofir

Unmedicated Induction at NYU

If I could give any pregnant woman one gift 100% guaranteed to make their birth experience better, I'd give Narchi and Karla's doula services. From the first conversation, they adapted to my personality and my needs. They made me feel understood and like my ideas about birth mattered, even though I was a somewhat clueless first-time mom. They worked equally with my husband and me, supporting us both in our roles throughout the pregnancy and birth.

Baby Thomas and family

Baby Thomas and family

I asked for books to read and exercises to perform and got recommendations promptly after our meeting. When I got searing foot pain late in my first trimester, they listened, acknowledged my pain, and brainstormed solutions with me. When I had stop and start labor and preeclampsia warning signs in my third trimester, they listened, helped me understand what was normal, and made helpful suggestions. When I made a half-baked attempt at studying hypnobirthing, they supported me warmly and without judgment. When labor finally came, Karla's text messages 8pm - 6am followed by Narchi's soothing coaching 6am - 7pm helped me through a successful delivery and first latch with my newborn.

I'm extremely proud of the mother Narchi and Karla helped me become. While no one is in control of pregnancy or birth, Karla and Narchi helped me feel like my beliefs and preferences were important and worth honoring. They helped me feel comfortable asking questions of my OBs throughout pregnancy and advocating for myself with the nurses during labor and delivery. They took a period of incredible pain and helped me connect with my own strength to survive and even see some beauty in it.

Other reasons to hire these wonderful doulas include:
- Narchi teaches in-home, customized childbirth classes.
- Karla sends timely internet memes to get you through tough times.
- Both have a wealth of knowledge, endless understanding, and heart-melting passion for helping women have their best possible birth experience.

Beautiful Natural Birth at Roosevelt Birthing Center

I had Karla and Narchi as my doulas for the first labor and delivery. All throughout the process, they were both very professional, knowledgeable, helpful and a pleasure to work with. I had a chance to work with them individually in sessions leading upto the birth and each meeting was very helpful. Karla happened to be on call for my delivery and she was amazing throughout. She was a strong and confident presence throughout my contractions and helped me get to the hospital in an ideal state. I had a long and arduous labor and delivery and she was there to coach me at each moment. Karla was not only knowledgeable but savy when it came to different situations which helped me have the natural birth I wanted. I fully trusted her to guide me and my husband and we could not have done it without her. I would fully recommend them to friends as well should they want a doula. -- Sowoon

"Hi Karla, How can we possibly thank you?? At least we can try!

We want to offer a tremendous thanks to you for everything you did to support us leading up to, during, and after Aaron's birth. I don't think we'll be able to adequately put into words just how grateful we are. You gave us the tools and know-how to feel as prepared as one can possibly be for such a transformative experience. And you were there every step of the way to guide us through what was an incredibly tough day - emotionally and physically. I am certain we would have had a different result had you not been there. Thanks to you, we had exactly the birth outcome we wanted. I know not every couple can say that, and we feel very lucky.

We would like nothing more but to spread the word about how great our experience was working with you both. Narchi, it was wonderful getting to meet you and work with you. I know you would have been a wonderful source of support had we gotten to work together on D-Day!

Look forward to being in touch :)

Columbia Hospital Birth

"I found Karla and Narchi through a NYC facebook mom's group. Several people posted about their wonderful experiences working with them. I ended up interviewing 4-5 doulas (all of whom had great reviews online and personal referrals) and Karla and Narchi immediately stood out among the rest. They both came in person for an interview and immediately I was struck by their warmth and openness. They are non-judgmental in every way and respect your personal desires for your birth. I am a physician and it was important to work with someone "evidence-based" and Karla and Narchi fit this so well, especially in comparison with other doulas I interviewed. I felt so comfortable having them throughout my pregnancy and asked them many questions along the way. My husband and I also loved the sessions prior to delivery and found them to be so helpful and informative. Karla and Narchi were always proactively reaching out, checking in on me to see how things were going and sending useful articles and links in the weeks leading up to birth. When I went into labor I felt so much support. Narchi was beyond wonderful throughout the process. She spent hours with us, when we needed support in early labor she was out our apartment, making sure I drank enough fluids and providing so much comfort and advice. She was also helpful in helping us know when to go to the hospital as I knew I wanted an epidural but didn't want to go too early and have it placed prematurely. During the labor at the hospital she was the most amazing support. So knowledgeable about the birth process and helped explain things that were going on. She was so soothing and helped me find comfortable positions and gave me the most amazing leg massage which felt so wonderful. During the pushing process I developed a fever and the baby was showing signs of distress and it came to a point where the physician delivering me gave me an option- to attempt vacuum assisted delivery with risk of emergency C-section or proceed with C-section. I was able to talk it through with Narchi and my husband and decided to attempt the vacuum delivery, which very fortunately worked out and delivered my healthy baby boy. Narchi stayed with us after the delivery to ensure that we were able to initiate breastfeeding. She left at 3AM once we were taken to our room. After the birth they checked in on us and were available for any questions that came up. I so appreciated the post-partum visit as I had lots of questions about breastfeeding and things related to the baby. They remain incredible supports to me when random questions pop up and my husband and I are so grateful to have them. We would give them our absolute highest recommendation and I will most certainly hire them again in my next pregnancy."

Thank you note from mother to Narchi:

"Dear Narchi,

Words won't do justice for how happy and grateful I am to have worked with you and Karla during my pregnancy, labor, and beyond. You were my rock during labor - a comfort, a support, and a trusting companion to discuss and make decisions about the unpredictable labor process. I so appreciated your calming and wise presence throughout the long day. I was so thrilled to have delivered vaginally. And your assistance with breastfeeding immediately after labor was priceless.

Thank you so much again for EVERYTHING. I most certainly will be reaching out with our next baby :) " -- Leah

"We recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl!!  Narchi and Karla were our doulas, and we had some wonderful visits with both of them prior to the big day!  We were very happy and felt completely safe with them.  They were both very professional, and personal, and are full of experience.  This was our first child, so naturally, no matter how many books we read, or websites we looked up we still had a plethora of questions.  And this amazing doula team were there to help answer them!  When it came down to game time, it ended up that Narchi was the one who would join us on this primal journey.  Narchi was already fully aware of our birth plan, and was there to help through the labor and birth, and was there to help advocate for us to have the birth we wanted.  It was a long process and she was fully present and awake the whole time, truly a blessing.  The birth of our little goddess would not have gone as smooth as it did without Narchi (and Karla).  We could not recommend them enough!!" -- Ted

Birthing Center, Roosevelt Hospital

Narchi and Karla make an amazing team. From the very first meeting all through post-partum, their experience, passion and kindness really shined.

The two birthing classes we took with them (one with Narchi and one with Karla), gave us great insight into the different stages of labor and equipped us with a lot of different techniques to cope with pain and stress.

Baby Felix

Narchi ended up being on call the day Felix arrived. We left for the hospital shortly after she got to our place. We had a long and rather bumpy cab ride, but Narchi's soothing voice and breathing exercises really helped us keep our calm. Once in the delivery room, her guidance was invaluable. She really helped me build the confidence I needed to go through the natural birth I wanted.

While the birth itself was a beautiful but exhausting experience, I found that the first few days back home were even more challenging. Felix was losing more weight than he should have and my milk wasn't coming in. Not only did Narchi spend a lot of time at home with us - helping us get a good latch, showing us swaddling techniques etc. - but she also kept checking-in on us the following days. She helped me troubleshoot and de-dramatize the breastfeeding process.

Ryan and I can't imagine going through this experience without Karla & Narchi and cannot recommend them highly enough. -- Anna and Ryan

"Karla and Narchi,

It has taken me so long to write this thank you because of the emotion I feel in writing you this. We cannot thank you enough for being part of this wonderful yet vulnerable time in our lives. To have you there before, during, and after Carter's birth has been such an amazing experience. I'm not quite sure what we would have done without your guidance and support.

Baby Carter

Baby Carter

My labor was unlike anything I will ever experience in my life and I feel stronger because of it. Without your support I think I would have given up early on and not gone so long without an epidural and would have been so incredibly confused about what my body was going through.  Being in labor for 52 hours was mind blowing and you made me feel good about my choices through the whole process. You both made me feel calm, empowered, and focused through what was a very confusing labor for me! Although I was very confused about my progress during labor, you helped me feel in control about the decisions I was making which was very important to me especially since I had to do things I didn't necessarily want to do, but knew were necessary at the time. Your help in getting me through every single contraction and reminding me every step of the way that I could do it was unbelievable. Your dedication to what we were going through in the moment was very apparent.  You truly made me feel like I was the only thing that mattered the entire time.  Regardless of everything that happened, Carter came into this world a healthy baby and I got my vaginal birth which was the most important thing, albeit with pain meds and pitocin, and we couldn't have done it without you. It's very overwhelming to have someone be part of such vulnerable moments and we couldn't have felt more comfortable with each of you from the start and throughout the whole process.  Although I'm sure rare for you guys, it was so great to get the chance to work with both of you during my labor. I feel so fortunate to have been able have you both there.

And then your presence after he was born was so amazing. I never imagined having a newborn would be that hard and you helped me every step of the way. It was so important to me to get breastfeeding down and you never wavered in helping me achieve that.  I also would have never given myself the self care I needed without your help from all the postpartum care tips, to making sure Rick was okay and being a supportive partner and making sure I was eating enough (Narchi I need that soup recipe because I plan on making it all winter!). I thought I knew so much about babies until you brought all of your knowledge to our lives. If you weren't with us I definitely would have given up on breastfeeding and Rick's and my communication would have surely suffered because we just wouldn't have known what to do. You both have such a calm nature and are so nurturing and were just exactly what we needed in those first two weeks. We miss your nurturing presence in our lives already!!

Attached are some pictures that Karla you took in the hospital after he was born, some that we took, as well as recent ones to show you how big he's gotten already! We had our one month doctor appointment today and he weighs 10lbs 10oz and is 22in!  I cry every time I look at the pictures from his birth. They're so beautiful and so glad that was captured!

It takes very special people to do what you do and I'm so thankful you both entered our lives. You were such an important part of our birthing and postpartum experience and we will never forget what you've done for us!  It was such a great experience working with both of you that I really hope we're still living in NY when we have baby #2 because I can't imagine doing it again without you and it would be so important to me to have you there again! I know you both know I don't like to give up and I can assure you that next time will be no different and I'll try again as hard as I can for that natural birth. Thank you again for being so wonderful and helping us through the most difficult thing we'll ever go through. You will both always hold a special place in our hearts for being part of our experience as new parents!

Thank You!

Hiring Narchi and Karla was the best decision we made. We are beyond grateful they were apart of this special time in our lives. They both have such a wonderful calming energy that was so important throughout the whole process. They eased our anxiety through their professionalism, knowledge, and passion for what they do.

During the labor, Narchi was there as a wonderful, supportive resource to help us make some tough decisions and an amazing advocate ensuring we felt in-control and gave my body enough time to react to the various changes. Not to mention the amazing techniques she deployed to make labor as comfortable as it could be and help my husband understand what I needed.

Once the baby was born, I loved having Narchi there to assist with breastfeeding by ensuring the baby had a great first latch. After the birth we had a follow up visit from Narchi and another visit from Karla about 10 days later. Both follow up visits were super helpful to make our breastfeeding experience a success.

Most importantly, they were always available through pregnancy, labor, and post-birth and made us feel incredibly comfortable texting and emailing with our one million questions about anything and everything. We really could not recommend their services enough. -- Rachel

Narci was an amazing doula!  She helped me more than words can say during my labor, transfer, and decision making process at the hospital.  She was kind and caring and encouraging.  She was also very calm and extremely knowledgeable -- EXACTLY what you need in labor!  Never pushy, she's a great listener and someone you can trust when everything around you gets overwhelming.

After over 3 hours of pushing, we welcomed our baby boy, and Narchi was right beside us the whole time.  She even took (the best) pictures of the birth at our request, and they are our now our favorite photos of that moment.  Oh!  And s he also made herself fully available postpartum as I was having a LOT of issues with breastfeeding for weeks.   It's like having a sister.   I owe her a lot.  Worth every penny.  And more!

"My husband and I will always thank Narchi for helping bring our beautiful daughter safely and peacefully into this world, and for guiding us through one of the most transformative experiences of our lives. As a first time mother, I had read over fifteen books about childbirth and my husband and I took two childbirth classes. I had met five different doulas, but felt hesitant to bring strangers into our private and sacred birthing experience. However, I instantly connected with Narchi and knew that she was the perfect doula for us. Narchi has an amazingly calm and kind energy and is able to deeply hold one’s values, intentions, fears, and aspirations for birth. I ended up having a demanding 46-hour labor and no amount of reading or classes could have provided us with the support that Narchi offered. During our pre-labor consultations, Narchi provided helpful resources, including natural comfort techniques, exercises, as well as information on nutrition and general pre-labor health. She was able to take theoretical concepts and apply it to examples from her personal and professional experiences. I called Narchi several times in the weeks before my labor and having her as part of the pre-birth process made me feel more secure and confident.

Narchi met us at home during my early labor and helped me set a solid foundation of natural coping techniques and methods. Narchi also helped my husband feel more confident in his role, including knowing when we should go to the Brooklyn Birthing Center, the center where we planned to have our natural birth.  For the first 35 hours, Narchi helped me use movement, meditation, heat packs, and massage to manage my labor. At a certain point, her husband even had to drive her baby over to the center, so that Narchi could nurse him. She also stayed up all night with me, giving me strong back massages to deal with my intense back labor. After the long night, I was extremely tired from a lack of food, water, and sleep. I was also still far from being fully dilated, and began to wonder if I would ever make it through. Had it not been for Narchi, I would have felt very alone. She gave 150% of herself such that I could have the strength and courage to keep moving through my labor. She reminded me of the many women who had also labored, like I was doing, and helped me feel good about what I was achieving and of myself. When I had to be transferred to the hospital due to the presence of meconium, Narchi was again extremely helpful, as we monitored potential fetal distress and where doctors contemplated an emergency C-section. In the end, Narchi helped usher our beautiful baby into the world through natural childbirth. Importantly, she helped us celebrate the beauty and joy of the entire voyage, with all of its unexpected twists and turns. Overall, we could not have found a doula that was better suited for our needs and birthing philosophy. Narchi’s wisdom, kindness, giving nature, birthing skills and professional knowledge make her amazing birth partner- she is fully and deeply engaged with the mission of her profession and we would highly recommend her services to anyone." -- Khushbu Srivastava and Jeff Pollastro

"From the moment I stepped out of the car to the final push and the birth of my son, Karla guided me and kept me focused. Her enthusiasm and confidence in me is what gave me the perseverance through the intensity of my labor. She encouraged me constantly by acknowledging that this is it and you're doing it which kept me focused and trusting that it was all going normally. She also knew when to change positions between contractions so I was up and moving, using gravity and movement to bring the baby down. Everything from having me wrap my arms around my fiancé and sway to walking the halls of the maternity ward  to using the birth ball in the shower as well as counting with me and keeping me breathing deeply helped me have a successful natural birth. I highly recommend her to any pregnant woman looking for a strong, supportive and very nurturing doula." -- Bree

Beautiful Birth at NYU

"As our due date approached, my fiancé and I were considering the necessity of a doula for our birth experience. We had our fears of finding someone who would fit our personalities, needs, and most importantly our birth plan. Upon meeting Narchi, we instantly felt comfortable. Her warmth and passion for helping people during this time was evident and I felt even more ready to give birth to our son knowing that she would be there to help us. During labor, she was present every step of the way. My fiancé was able to have the role he wanted in coaching me through contractions while also being supported by her through the emotions and physically draining day. While we had previously discussed our birth plan and strategies for helping me work through labor pain and delivery, during the actual process I felt like Narchi was more engaged with me than I could have ever planned or asked for. She helped me to change positions, gave counter-pressure (even in places that I didn’t think I needed it- and it was AMAZING), helped me into the shower, used cold cloths to wipe my face, and held my hand through every stage. I cannot express enough how much I love Narchi as a person and as my doula. Following the birth experience, my fiancé and I look back on what happened, both good and bad and ultimately cannot imagine that time without her.  We HIGHLY recommend her and would be more than happy to further discuss our experience if anyone would like to learn more about Narchi and having a doula. Thank you Narchi for your love, advice, support, and patience!" -- Jessica

"Karla was a life-saver.  She made us both feel very comfortable with her attention to detail and supportive attitude in our early meetings.  Once we were in labor, from the minute she arrived at our apartment, she was able to help Ayumi work through contractions, in ways that I was not able to despite our 24 hours worth of Bradley classes.  She was really able to get Ayumi to focus and she could immediately feel how much easier it was with Karla's help.  At the hospital she protected Ayumi's physical and emotional space throughout the labor.  She stayed on top of how we were progressing and explored different approaches as the labor stretched to almost 24 hours.  Karla helped us achieve exactly what we wanted, a healthy natural birth, despite the inevitable pressures and distractions from the hospital.  I don't know how we could have done it without her." -- Ron, papa to Nina

An Epidural Birth - Manhattan, NYC

"My experience with Narchi was wonderful. She is a caring, sympathetic, and supportive person. She was by my side from early labor through the birth of my child. In fact, I was so comfortable with her, I sent the father home to sleep while I labored through the night! Ever respectful of the doctors and staff, she explained to me the various procedures and read to me moment by moment important events from the monitors. She kept me well informed. At one point, the doctor said the baby was not in a good position for delivery. Without missing a beat, Narchi produced a manual on labor positions and guided me along with the nurse into a better position in order for the baby to turn. Within an hour, the baby did turn! It is quite possible that Narchi helped me avoid a c-section. She was always willing to answer any questions I had and her gentle, reassuring presence felt like a blessing. She is 100% dedicated to her work as a doula and I give her the highest recommendation." -- Jen

An Unmedicated Birth - Queens, NYC

Excerpt from mom's birth story:
"From Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, Narchi was by my side walking with me, putting pressure on my back at every contraction, while showing me how to breath and cope with the pain. There was one point where it hurt so much and I had asked Narchi "is it too late to get an epidural?" and she responded with "it doesn't count when you asked for it during a contraction" :)
When we returned to the room, I was 7cm dilated. I was so excited but the pain was so strong I couldn't take it anymore. Then Narchi started to use the phrase that we discussed before, whenever I wanted to give up, she just needed to tell me I'm almost there. This would be over soon. I can do it. She also took out her rice hot pack and essential oils to help me relax. Everything she did was effective. I couldn't have survived without her rice hot pack, her massaging my back and her encouragement and advice. Around 3:36pm, I delivered a beautiful healthy baby girl 7.14 lbs without any medication except cervidil. Nothing went according to plan but I achieved my ultimate goal of having a natural birth :) Thanks to Narchi. I would not have been able to do it without her. I'd definitely recommend Narchi to everyone who wants to have a natural birth." -- Tweet

Dad's comments:
"At first I was skeptical, thinking that having a doula would be a waste of money and that most things could be taken care of by either the nurses or the doctors. However, I eventually relented and agreed on the doula’s assistance since this would be our first child and that it would give my wife the peace of mind she would need to endure the tribulations of labor. Sooner then I realized, I started to become aware that the nurses as well as the doctors had very little time for us since there were many other couples giving birth that day. We would ask them for advice or help and it would take the nurses a long time to respond to us.
From the very first moment our doula Narchi arrived, she was a wealth of knowledge and support. She was able to direct all of our fears away from us by answering all of our questions and calming our nerves. She showed my wife positions to alleviate the discomfort from the endless contractions as well as me (husband) massage techniques. The doula and I would then alternate the massages. However, eventually I would get tired and collapse on the couch for a nap, but Narchi would not quit. She stayed up with my wife walking with her, massaging her, giving her encouragement to not quit and succumb to a drugged up delivery.
I know without a doubt now that the whole delivery process would have been hundreds of times more difficult were it not for Narchi’s help. Her guidance was instrumental in helping my wife and I go through the entire labor as stress free as it could have been. She was a beacon of energy, and we could not have been able to have a natural drugless birth without her. Thank you Narchi for all you have done for us." -- Tony

Baby Haleema  born at Maimonides in Brooklyn

"I had really high expectations working with a doula.  When I met Karla not only did she meet my expectations but she left an imprint on my life that became a beautiful experience for me. From our first meeting to our last Karla has been so helpful and informative about birthing.  As a VBAC patient it was very hard to find the right supporting cast. By working with Karla, she gave me hope with her always positive energy and dedication in making my birthing experience a beautiful one. Everything started as "you can do this" when she would speak to me which gave me motivation and courage that I needed. Having a negative C-section experience previously, this time I wanted a natural birthing experience. I knew I needed a doula who could assist/guide me and that's exactly what she did. I was traumatized from my past birthing experience, but Karla was always there to guide me whereas my doctor never did. Karla was a great decision my husband and I made.  I always speak to my pregnant friends about her and the level of passion she has in making another person's experience as positive as possible. Karla is a true professional, and WE (newborn included) highly recommend her." -- Ayesha, mama to Haleema

"In preparation for the birth of my second child I found Narchi while searching for doulas with VBAC experience, as I was hoping to avoid a repeat c-section. Throughout my pregnancy, Narchi was wonderful and always provided me with balanced, well-researched information. When I was feeling unsupported by my health-care providers in my VBAC decision, Narchi provided the support I needed emotionally and she helped give me the strength to stand up for myself and my choices. She always had time to talk when I needed a shoulder to lean on.
While I ultimately ended up having a repeat c-section for various reasons, Narchi was there by my side through the whole process. I never once felt judged for the decision to finally have the repeat c-section and she was such a lovely strong, calm presence leading up to it. It was an incredibly difficult decision and Narchi was there for me both physically and emotionally. She waited for hours on end with us in the hospital prior to the birth of our second daughter and I was so grateful to have her there for myself and for my husband.
Her postpartum follow up visit was just what I needed as well, as it gave me a chance to take a little break from my newborn and let someone take care of me. Even though my birth experience was not what I planned on or expected this time around, she was such an important part of it all and I am happy that we chose her as our doula. Knowing what I know now, my only regret is that I hadn’t found her for the birth of my first child." -- Sarah

"Pregnant with my first baby and about 1 year in this country and city, I had no friends who had had baby here yet and no family around. So, in addition to being naturally anxious about delivering a baby, I also felt like I needed some support and guidance to navigate the hospital system on the D-day. I did not want to be induced, I wanted to avoid taking too much medication. I wanted to understand what was going on and I wanted someone to second my husband if need be.
I am really glad I hired Narcisa. She was so sweet and supportive and positive through the whole process, working with my husband and helping him help me but leaving him the primary role as long as he wanted it (and he was there the whole time), massaging my back as he was supporting me, massaging my feet, applying her famous hot rice-sock where I was in pain, and I was glad she was there because everything turned out being exactly the opposite as what I was hoping for. (I was induced and after a great beginning of labor, my blood pressure shot super high because of the pitocin and the baby's heartrate kept decreasing so I ended up having to have a C-section). She was there to help us with the first latch and she knew when to go and leave us as a family.
Narcisa was even more helpful AFTER the birth. I was not coping so well on my own with the baby, no family around, so she accepted to work with me as a post-partum doula twice a week for several weeks after the birth. She listened to me, cooked for me, held my baby so I could catch a little rest. She never judged, gave me useful tips, made me laugh and let me cry. And she gave our daughter her first bottle of breastmilk :-).
I highly recommend her. She's extraordinarily positive, sensitive and knows her job perfectly. She remains a dear friend for us." -- Floriane

"We will forever be grateful to the universe that Karla Pippa decided to become a birth doula.  We felt comfortable and empowered by Karla from the start.  She has a calm yet powerful way about her.  When it came time to schedule our appointments, Karla had such an organized, easy way about her, and when it came time to give birth, Karla was a truly powerful presence that I needed.  She took the time to truly get to know us, our hopes, fears, and our birth plan.  She listened proactively and made us feel that no request was too large and that no question, fear or concern was too silly.  She practiced our hypnobirthing techniques with us both over the phone and in person.  We felt well prepared for our birth, confident, and supported.  When we finally went into labor, we called Karla even before our midwives.  We had a calm, beautiful, natural birth with no medicine, no interventions and no mention or thought of either.  Karla was by my side every step of the way and was "on" the entire time:  guiding me, massaging me, and unconditionally supporting me.  She breathed with me and encouraged me to stay ahead of my surges.  She supported me through and through and made me feel proud of my progress, my decisions and my strength.  We look back at that day with such fondness for Karla and the care she brought to us, our birth and our    baby.  We highly recommend hiring Karla as your doula." -- Molly and Oj, parents to Owen

"My husband and I are forever thankful to Narchi for helping us have a birth experience that we are happy to remember. I had a long and hard labor but with Narchi’s calm presence and amazing support, I gave birth meds free and felt strong and confident.
We interviewed a few doulas before Narchi who were all very nice and experienced, but somehow we did not feel a connection with them. We were beginning to wonder if and how we would know which doula to pick and what we should be looking for. Then we met Narchi, and instantly both my husband and I knew she was our doula. Narchi is calm, yet warm and passionate, experienced but humble, professional but easy to connect with. We felt very comfortable around Narchi and knew she was the right person to have with us during the birth of our baby.
My baby was positioned correctly but his head was not completely straight (according to the sonogram technician from the morning when my contractions started). The doctor did not say anything about that so I figured it is not important. However, when after 5 hours of active labor I barely opened up, Narchi realized something was not right. I then remembered to tell her about the slight displacement of the baby's head. She then put me in many different positions to help the baby on its way out and used a scarf to wriggle my belly to help get the baby into the proper position. It worked, and after a few more hours, I was opening very well. I am so thankful for that! I am sure the doctors would have pushed me to have a C-Section if that issue was not fixed. My contractions were very strong and I was in active labor for 14 hours. Narchi was there non stop, giving me counter pressure that felt amazing (my husband tried to do those as well but it did not work as well as when Narchi was doing it) and she was so calm that having her around, made me calm. Then I was pushing for 2 ½ hours and Narchi was standing by my side and I remember squeezing her hand hard every time contractions came on. Even my husband says his hand hurt from me squeezing it; I cannot imagine how it felt for Narchi. But she stood there all that time, giving me complete support and encouragement. We do not have family close by but after this, we felt like Narchi was our family.
We cannot recommend Narchi enough. Next time we find out I am pregnant, Narchi will get a call before our other families do to make sure we secure her as our doula again." -- Nina and Jaspreet

"I can't recommend Karla highly enough! She was such an important part of my birthing experience. Throughout my pregnancy, Karla was a supportive and empowering presence. I felt that she really respected the wishes I had for my labor and delivery and helped me create a birth plan to honor that. She is a wonderful combination of smart, confident, calm, nurturing and strong. In labor, she coached me through the pain of contractions with clear and calming words and soothing actions. I trusted her completely and was amazed by how my labor seemed to accelerate with her coaching. She knows her stuff! She also got my partner involved and they both worked together so fluidly (much to my benefit!), as if they had known each other for years. Before my pregnancy, I would not have predicted that a doula would play such an important role in my delivery. Now I can't imagine the experience without her! I'll be forever grateful to Karla for guiding my daughter peacefully into the world." -- Isabel, mama to Paloma

"Partnering with Narci was an essential part of my preparation for my VBAC for several reasons. First, her personal experience with VBACs served as a constant reminder that it is possible to give birth vaginally after a c-section. Knowing that she did it gave me strength and confidence. Second, her clinical knowledge was invaluable to my husband and me. It helped us better understand the clinical significance of prenatal tests, which enabled us to make educated decisions regarding my prenatal care.  Not only did Narci answer our questions in great detail, she also encouraged us to do our research and educate ourselves, which empowered us. Last but not least, she gave my husband and I tremendous emotional and physical support throughout labor.  She knew when to just remain silent next to me, and when to make suggestions on how to cope with the labor pain. I wholeheartedly recommend Narci as a doula." -- Caroline

"Finding a doula for my first pregnancy was a daunting task. We were looking for someone to guide us through the most personal and monumental experience of our lives.  From the start, Karla brought the perfect balance of comfortability and professionalism that put us both at ease. When Nat and I met Karla we knew right away that she was the one. Thanks to Karla's techniques and coaching I was able to have the labor experience I wanted.  On the day of my birth, Karla had given me the necessary tools and knowledge to know what was happening to my body. As labor intensified, Karla came to our home and helped set a positive tone that carried us throughout the experience. She knew when it was time to go to the hospital, and she was right. I was fully dilated when we arrived.  There, in my birth room, she helped us create and maintain a calm space which we always felt in control of. She was instructional when helping Nat navigate communication with the hospital staff, always sensing when she was needed. Weeks later, she also, somewhat magically, helped our baby latch for the first time.  Karla helped me feel calm, empowered and focused throughout the process. And it was a beautiful process." -- Melanie, mama to Pia

A Hypnobabies Birth

"My wife and I are so incredibly happy that Narchi was part of our birth experience.  Not only is Narchi an experienced, well-rounded, and knowledgeable doula, she is also an extremely warm person, which is evident from the minute that you first meet her.  This was our first child, and it was a fairly long labor.  Narchi was there with us every step of the way, in a calming and supportive manner.  We don't know what we would have done without her, and the entire time, we kept thinking to ourselves how happy we were to have chosen Narchi as our doula.  She offers just the right balance between providing guidance, and being supportive of the mother's wishes and decisions.  Also, as mentioned before, Narchi is incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of childbirth.  Her level of expertise with Hynobabies also was particularly helpful for us.  We wholeheartedly recommend Narchi as a doula for any woman about to give birth." -- Karen and Paul

"I cannot recommend having Karla as your doula highly enough - we had a truly wonderful experience with her this fall. We were thrilled to have someone in the birthing suite who was there only to help us, not tied to the hospital's policies or ideals, with no agenda except to help us have the best experience we could have. I honestly cannot sing her praises enough. She helped us with our anxiety, our preparation, and basically was our guide and cheerleader through labor and delivery. Other little touches that I remember fondly include aromatherapy, massage, and offering a straw when even sipping water seemed too much. After our son was born, she was there the next day to offer further support with breastfeeding and recovery." -- Jessica, mama to Ethan

"I interviewed many doulas before I finally found the one that I felt safe and comfortable with. Narchi is the best doula I could ask for. She is kind, warm and extremely professional and knowledgeable . She is supportive and very attentive- she listens to you but she is also naturally very intuitive. Her breathing technique was instrumental in getting me through the birthing process. Thanks to her knowledge and skills we stayed at home for most of my birth and her presence and support was invaluable in a hectic and not so friendly hospital environment. I felt much calmer and safer knowing she was by my side when my husband was dealing with the never ending hospital paperwork.
Also, her help with breastfeeding during postpartum visits was absolutely invaluable. We had two lactation consultant but it was her advice and experiencethat helped me figure out the low milk supply issue I had.
I cannot praise Narchi high enough- her comforting presence and never ending encouragement made the birth of my son one of the most wonderful experience of my life. Thank you Narchi." -- Ewa

"From our first meeting, I felt a connection with Karla and wanted her to be part of my birth team.  She helped me visualize and verbalize what I wanted for the birth of my daughter.  When the day arrived, she was at my side quickly and helped me labor at home as long as possible.  When I was admitted to the hospital and wasn't able to give birth in the Birthing Center, Karla helped to make sure my labor was as close to what I wanted as possible.  What I will remember most is Karla's unique combination of strength and compassion that kept me going  After two hours of pushing, I didn't think I had much more left in me to push my daughter out.  Karla's words of encouragement helped me to go deeper and find strength I didn't think I had." -- Vanessa, mama to Maybelle

Long Unmedicated Birth at Mt. Sinai East

"I cannot speak highly enough of Narchi!  Her presence during our daughter’s birth was such a blessing, and she will always hold a very special place in my heart because of it. I knew I wanted a natural childbirth, but also felt most comfortable giving birth in a hospital.  My husband and I were looking for someone to help guide and support us through the process, but were nervous about finding someone who would be judgmental or anti-modern medicine.  Narchi was an incredible find-she is committed to helping you make your birth experience what you would like it to be.  She is knowledgeable, supportive, and an incredibly calming presence.  She pushed herself so hard to be there for me (I had an extremely long labor and she had just finished another birth when I contacted her) and helped my husband understand how best to support me during labor.  Her suggestions were always helpful and she was never pushy or overbearing.  I know I would not have been able to have my daughter naturally if it had not been for Narchi.  Her presence and guidance allowed my husband and I to remain calm throughout the birthing experience and actually enjoy it. When I look back on that day, I can’t help but smile at the beautiful, happy memories I have of the birth of my first daughter.  I am hoping she’ll agree to a trip to Los Angeles in a couple of years to help with our next child =)" -- Sara

Beautiful Natural Birth at NYU

"We cannot recommend Narchi highly enough; she provided incredible support from the moment we hired her, sharing invaluable resources on pregnancy, labor, and postpartum topics via email and in person. During our prenatal sessions, Narchi was extremely receptive to our questions and vision for our son's birth, and put both my wife and I at ease with with her calm, confident energy and tremendous knowledge about pregnancy, birth, and baby care. Together, we prepared for labor in a manner that allowed us to feel comfortable and safe. With Narchi's help, I had a fast, entirely natural delivery, meeting all of my goals for the birth, and have been able to recover and take on the responsibilities of having a newborn with relative ease. Narchi was also an amazing support for my wife, enabling her to comfort me and offer exactly what I needed so that the process remained intimate and fulfilling for all of us. After the birth, Narchi stayed for hours to help us with breastfeeding, and didn't leave our sides until we were ready. She then visited the day after we returned home from the hospital to make sure breastfeeding and baby care were going smoothly, responding immediately to our need for additional support and enabling us to adjust to life with a baby right away. She has continued to check in and offer terrific advice via text, which has been extraordinarily comforting. Hiring Narchi was absolutely the best decision we made for our family prenatally, and we are honored to have been able to work with her." -- Ariel

"Karla was instrumental in the birth of my daughter. Not only did she bring an immediate sense of calm and reassurance from the moment she entered my apartment, but she gave my husband the tools he needed to be a great support during my labor and delivery. Her advice and encouragement during my labor enabled me to have a 100% drug free delivery. As my postpartum doula, Karla helped with the basics while I was recovering (errands, breast feeding help, how-to everything!) but more importantly, helped me to trust my mama instincts even though I felt completely lost. Every day felt easier after she came and I truly think I am a better mother now because of her! " -- Jaci, mama to Madison

Birth at NYU

"We partnered with Karla for the birth of our son last October (2013).  We didn't exactly know what we were looking for in a doula because, let's face it, as first time parents, we had no idea what we were doing or what was about to happen to us.  We knew we needed a doula and we asked her all the questions friends told us to ask, after interviewing several doulas we both agreed Karla just "felt right".  Throughout our pregnancy, Karla offered continuous and compassionate support.  She was warm. She was kind. And she laughed at my husband's jokes that were not funny.

And then I went into labor.  It was fast, it was unexpected (despite being pregnant for 41 weeks?) and it was all consuming.  I was scared and my husband's support was great but I still felt untethered.  At 3:30am Karla burst through our door and took control of my labor.  She calmly, but firmly, gave my husband direction and anchored us all both mentally and physically.  I was instantly impressed with her.  The calm, warm, peaceful doula meant business in labor.  If I had an ounce of extra strength, I would have cheered for her out loud.  Throughout the next few hours, Karla helped me labor at home.  She listened to me, she observed what was happening and knew exactly how to help me progress my labor.  In moments of doubt and chaos, I looked at her and found peace. She even reminded me of my favorite mantra "Fierce body. Calm mind."  She reminded me consistently that our baby and I were laboring together and that this was something special, natural and perfect.  At one point, I heard my baby say "My mommy is a strong mommy" - and I wouldn't have had access to that place without Karla helping me tune in.  When we arrived at the hospital (10cm dilated!), it was clear that Karla had memorized our birth wish list.  She coached my husband through communications with the staff that was rushing to get me situated.  She made sure we were informed and could speak for ourselves.  In the final stages of my labor, Karla kept me centered and my husband calm.  She kept me present and helped us both to fully experience our first birth.  Karla coached me through delivery but then stayed present and directive throughout the next hour.  She helped me through the discomfort of stitches and made sure our first latch was successful.  She kept us informed and educated from start to finish.

I was so proud and so grateful for Karla, that upon my return home from the hospital, I begged her to help me postpartum. Luckily, she had time available.  Over the next several weeks, Karla helped me to navigate my new emotional and physical reality.  From soothing a newborn, adjusting a latch and figuring out a breast pump - Karla helped me feel supported and safe.  I really looked forward to my time with her.  I felt more confident in myself after every session.  My husband and I are profoundly grateful for Karla.  We continue to tell everyone we know that Karla's confidence, compassion and care worked to get us the birth we hoped for. She is truly wonderful and the "secret weapon" of our birth team.  We continue to recommend her to expectant parents in the NYC area." -- Marisa and Steve, parents to Knox

Homebirth with Karla

I want to start by saying, that it is very difficult for me to find the words that would express how incredibly grateful I am for the role Karla played with the birth of my daughter, Dru and for her postpartum care.  I met her early in my pregnancy through a referral and immediately knew she was the right fit, despite that fact that I was
having a home birth for my first born child and Karla had not experienced a home birth before.

Baby Dru born at home in Harlem

Baby Dru born at home in Harlem

Throughout my pregnancy, I was faced with difficult challenges with insurance, my care providers, a fall down the stairs at 38 weeks that resulted in a tailbone injury, minor pregnancy related health scares, and just the usual fear of labor and all that comes with the experience. For each and every issue I had, Karla was there for me with soothing words, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen and more importantly, I felt her heart was in it and there. She really cared, which is what helped me more than anything.  She always makes herself available and she genuinely wants to help - help you feel better, help solve the problem and get through the obstacle with you.   She really, really cares about what she does and the women she takes on as clients. If she doesn't have an answer, you better believe that Karla is the first person to reach out to her network to find a resource or advice for you. She is so passionate about what she does and is so interested in learning more, in an effort to be of the best service to the clients she takes on.  When I was approaching my due date, Karla kept in touch with me and continued to provide me with a source of comfort and ease as my due date came and went and I had a bruised tailbone.  During my labor, she was a rock star.  My labor was very tough due to the baby's head position being asynclitic (baby's head cocked to the side, providing one of the toughest labors) and Karla's support throughout the birth, is what got me through it. These types of births almost always result in forcep deliveries or c-sections, but mine remained a vaginal birth at home, because of Karla's complete devotion to me during my labor, which I felt and gave me all the strength in the world. She was incredible for her first home birth and my husband and I are forever grateful for her.

I need to add, that Karla is the person who explained my birth to me, explained why there were certain challenges, what they meant, why I felt certain ways, and helped me process the birth. Not my care provider, but Karla. This is probably one of the most important things that she did. I was really having trouble processing my experience and dealing with those initial hormones and emotions, until Karla walked me through this and explained things to me, lovingly and calmly.

My care provider provided additional challenges in my labor and postpartum, and Karla continued to support me through those issues and provide suggestions and ideas to help better my situation.  From the moment my daughter was born, despite the grueling 20 hour labor with all sorts of drama, Karla stuck with me and ensured Dru latched on and I was getting the breastfeeding process going. Her postpartum visits were always extremely helpful, whether it be helping me breastfeed, teaching me how to pump, answering the bevy of questions.  I always had, providing my husband and I with a much needed extra set of hands for laundry, preparing food, teaching us to swaddle, teaching us about baby wearing, and walk us though our room full of baby supplies that we had no idea what to do with, until Karla showed us. There were so many things we didn't know we would even need to know, and Karla being there for the first few weeks as a person to call and to help us physically and emotionally, is invaluable. -- Misha, mama to Dru
