Julie (she/her) began her doula work as a means to explore her curiosity and fascination with birth. Fatigued from the traditional college route and a literature degree, she wanted to “feel” what it would be like to work with pregnant folks. Julie found CAPPA and mentored with Kristy Zadrozny of Expecting(NYC) as a labor and postpartum doula. The Doula Project gave her an expanded scope of the work; as a full-spectrum doula, Julie regularly supported abortion through Planned Parenthood of Greater New York.

Cultivation of the mind-body connection through yoga and insight meditation as a means of self-exploration and self-love greatly informs Julie’s approach to birth, which centers on staying present with an open heart and mind. In addition to her love of birth, Julie finds joy in cooking for family, friends and clients, speaking Spanish to her exuberant 2 year old and riding her bike around NYC.

  • "Julie supported us through our first birth and exceeded any expectations we could have had for a doula. She helped prepare us mentally and physically for the birth of our little one by truly listening to what we wanted and offering support to meet our specific goals. During labor she did what we didn’t even know was needed- massaging pressure points during contractions without being asked or even just giving a reassuring nod or smile when we received updates from the doctors. Julie was such a calming presence throughout our birthing experience and by the end she felt more like a friend who doubled as both a therapist and birthing consultant. We couldn’t have created a more perfect doula ourselves and we know that anyone would be lucky to have her by their side!"

  • "Julie was the first person we interviewed to be our doula, and we immediately felt at ease with her and didn’t feel the need to interview anyone else! Her warmth, understanding, and care were felt from the get-go, and boy are we glad we trusted our instincts. Throughout the process, Julie has been very communicative, honest, and knowledgeable - it’s apparent that she was meant to be doing this important birth work. Our meetings before birth were super helpful for both my partner and I to learn coping techniques, and she was incredibly supportive during birth with massage, assistance to me and my partner, and helping me through the throes of contractions. Julie is not only someone I consider sacred and special as part of my birth process, but also as a person in life! I’d highly recommend connecting with her if you’re interested in having a down-to-earth, supportive, and caring doula for your birth. "

  • "Julie came for postpartum shifts through the first six weeks of our son’s life. Her help was invaluable. Not just in taking over the daily routines of feeding, washing bottles and pump parts, and changing diapers so that my wife and I could sleep in those early days, but in coaching. She helped us figure out better ways to bathe him, to hold him for bottle feeding and for breastfeeding (ergonomics is so important), to change his diaper, to interact with him when he started to be interested in tummy time—even things like making sure we’d put the right things in the diaper bag. My wife and I definitely had fewer arguments because we always had someone to reach out to for advice! It is very easy to be overwhelmed in the early days of parenthood with all of the challenges. Julie helped us to settle into a rhythm of caring for our son that let us enjoy this time with him. As she told me on one of her visits—you don’t get this time back. I am enormously grateful to Julie for helping to guide me so that I did not miss out on this beautiful time of his life."
