Luna & Jane
Luna
Growing up, Luna’s godmother was a midwife who worked for legislative change regarding birth choice in her state, and her mother was a prenatal massage therapist/labor doula. After witnessing her sister’s journey through NYU’s midwifery program many years later, Luna was inspired to embark on her own odyssey as a labor and birth doula. She is now a DONA-certified doula, serving clients throughout the boroughs.
Luna has a background in writing, journalism, illustration, and research—all skills that rely on communication and interpersonal sensitivity. Her work has always been aided by her ability to listen, understand, and center the stories and needs of others. She strives to be a strong, empathetic, and client-centered communicator.
As an athlete from a young age, Luna understands the process of physically and emotionally preparing for a major event, caring for one’s body, and coaching from both sides of the “field.” She has been coached and knows how to coach—when to push someone, when to encourage them, and when to support rest.
Luna offers warm, grounded, evidence-based support. She doesn't think there is any "right" way to birth and she looks forward to elevating your voice and preferences as you embark on this journey.
Heidi is a former Peace Corps Volunteer (South Africa), a single parent by choice, and an amateur seamstress.
Jane is a Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula and an Integrative Lactation & Feeding Specialist. She has also trained as a Comforting Touch practitioner with Yiska Obadia.
After entering her 30’s, and knowing that someday soon she wanted children of her own, Jane realized that birth had been hidden from view and that the prospect of giving birth felt only scary. Having now trained and supported families as a doula, she understands that birth is so much more than this for the people she works with. Jane believes that by being better prepared and supported, birthers don’t need to be afraid of birth, but can instead be open and ready for this bridge into parenthood. Jane also knows the importance of discussing, destigmatizing and supporting mental health challenges from her own experience with depression and anxiety. Holding space and helping her clients find the right professional support is one of the main tenets of her practice.
Jane has been in Brooklyn since 2012 and originally hails from Seattle, WA. Although she’s officially a “New Yorker” now, her West Coast roots are still integral to her values. When not supporting birthers, Jane can be found enjoying the beauty of Prospect Park or knitting and quilting in her Ditmas Park apartment where she lives with her husband, Jordan.
